Glastonbury 2005 LineupAnnounced
Tue 12th Apr, 2005 in International News
Did you have fun at this year’s Big Day Out? Of course you did. You cried tears of joy at The Polyphonic Spree, kicked it old-school style with the Beasties, got called a “maggot-assed bitch” by Corey from Slipknot and marveled at the neatness of System Of A Down’s beards.
But, as anyone who has been overseas will tell you, Australian festivals have nothing on their English counterparts. The English summer festival seasons sees some of the world’s biggest acts descent upon the UK. With the Reading/Leeds lineups already announced, it’s time for Glastonbury to reveal theirs. And it’s a corker.
The main Pyramid Stage will host – amongst others – The White Stripes, Coldplay, Kylie Minogue, The Killers, New Order, Doves, Elvis Costello, Brian Wilson, Van Morrison, Garbage, The Thrills, Ash, The Coral, Kaiser Chiefs, Goldie Lookin’ Chain and the John Butler Trio.
The second stage (imaginatively titled the Other Stage) will include Razorlight, Kasabian, Ian Brown, Echo and the Bunnymen, Interpol, Bloc Party, The Bravery, Cake, Hot Hot Heat, The Futureheads, Soul Wax, Athlete and The Dears.
Finally, the lineup on the John Peel Stage will include Bright Eyes, The Go! Team, Dresden Dolls, Art Brut, Willy Mason, Yourcodenameis:milo and El President.
Thinking of heading over? Think again – all 112,000 tickets to Glastonbury 2005 sold out within three hours of going on sale, with an estimated two million people worldwide trying to purchase tickets via the internet and phone lines. In an effort to crack down on eBay scalpers, Glastonbury organisers this year have announced that all ticket holders will need photo identification to enter the event. Glastonbury 2005 takes place from June 24-26.
In other White Stripes news, Jack and Meg have announced that their fifth album will be titled Get Behind Me, Satan and will hit stores in June 6. It will be preceded by a single, Blue Orchard.
