Portishead move to album four

After making us wait 11 years for a follow-up to 1997’s self-titled effort, Portishead is back in the creative swing. The band this week told BBC News they’re already mapping out a new album.

“We’re going to start writing and if all goes well it could be [out] in a year’s time,” Geoff Barrow said. “That would be the most perfect thing to do.”

Having re-staked their claim as masters of lo-fi electronica with last year’s Third, Portishead is now operating without a label. Life without a record deal is “a really lovely place to be for the first time”, Barrow told BBC News.

Regardless of how the next LP arrives, this news is enough to get fans rejoicing. Is a tie-in tour too much to hope for?
