After 27 years, Mick Jones and Topper Headon of The Clash have entered the studio together again. The pair will re-record the classic Jail Guitar Doors for the charity of the same name, with founder Billy Bragg and four former prison inmates.
The studio session were also filmed as a part of an upcoming documentary Breaking Rocks, focusing on the initiative started by Bragg in 2007 to bring instruments into prisons to assist with inmates rehabilitation.
It’s a cause close to Headon’s heart. “”When I was in prison myself, many years ago,” he recalled, “I was lucky enough to have access to a guitar, which belonged to the prison vicar! I know how much it helped me get through it.”
The documentary is set to premiere as a part of the Raindance film festival on October 1. A trailer of the film’s pilot can be seen at Breakingrocks.co.uk.
