Foo Fighters get Greatest Hits

With six albums to their opinion-dividing name, the Foo Fighters are set to get a best-of package before the year is out. Foo Fighters Greatest Hits will lift songs from their 1995 debut album right through to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.

The collection is also set to include two new tracks: Word Forward and Wheels. The latter was given its first airing during a 4 July barbeque at the White House to commemorate military heroes. You won’t find a better illustration than that of the space Dave Grohl and his buddies now inhabit. Rabid enthusiasts, take heed: Foo Fighters Greatest Hits is expected 3 November.

Definitely knew this was only a matter of time.
If any band has deserved a greatest hits release, it's this lot. Even if you're not a fan, you can appreciate just how many hits those guys have had over the years.

He's an excellent drummer, but he's also a really solid vocalist in my opinion.

Haven't they done that or was it just a 10th anniversary edition? The copy I bought has Baker St and also Down in the Park on it.

Why is that cool? Shouldn't diehard FF fans such as yourself have all the albums already? What's a greatest hits album going to achieve except more album sales and $$$ in Dave Grohl's already fat wallet?

yeah fairly certain i have the same version of 'colour and the shape' as napoleon does...
this should be pretty cool, although i guess i already have most of their albums.
great band though, were great in concert to.

These two shouldn't go in the same passage of words.

Everlong is still one of my all time favourite songs, really, really love it.
Mooney's list seems 98% likely to be the tracklisting, doesn't seem to be any omissions from that.

I enjoyed the first two FF records as they were pretty hard edged, raw and vital and played on that loud/soft dynamic that Nirvana mastered. Selected cuts from the third breakthrough record were also okay as were a handful of tracks from One by One. It all got pretty tedious for me after that.

As many rock bands do entering their 'middle age', The Foos have really begun to repeat themselves, only with far less interesting songs. I would like to see a 'Best Of' mostly concentrating on the first four records and yeah, that cover of Baker Street which is great!

I count The Pretender as one of the best things Dave Grohl has ever done. The more recent albums themselves may not be as consistent as the early work, but there's still stuff to enjoy on them, no question.

In my opinion, the Foos haven't released a consistent album since The Colour and the Shape. Each album does seem to have a few outstanding tracks on it, though.

Breakout, Learn to Fly, Live In Skin, Headwires...along with the songs you mentioned, I find it to be a solid album.
TCATS is untouchable, though; no argument.

First five tracks of Nothing Left are fantastic, carrying through on the momentum from Colour - breakout and stacked actors are two of the best songs of their career, but the entire second half doesnt live up to it, and I'll never understand why Foo fans like Next Year - the song was designed to be played in a melancholy fashion over a montage - the Foos version of Time Of Your Life...

i agree with pretty much everything MAB has said. and while alot of people hate Echoes, what i liked about it was that it seemed to have a bit of a mix of all their different sounds in the one album. it's not my favourite of theirs but i'd rate it above One By One and probably In Your Honour as well (at least the rock disc).
