The first taste of the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack, All Is Love, has been released featuring indie all-star collective, Karen O and the Kids.
Karen’s Kids include Yeah Yeah Yeahs band mates Brian Chase and Nick Zinner; Bradford Cox from Deerhunter; Aaron Hemphill from Liars; Greg Kurstin from The Bird and the Bee; and serial collaborators Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs) and Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, The Greenhornes). Composer Carter Burwell, best know for his work on many Coen brothers films, and a children’s choir have also contributed to the soundtrack.
In a statement Karen O has explained her inspirations for the soundtrack, “What I initially wanted to do was close to Cat Stevens in Harold and Maude, really simple, but memorably and seamlessly woven into the movie. I didn’t want to make music that was hammering you over the head or go for some kind of pushbutton emotion”.
The soundtrack is out September 29th with the highly anticipated and much delayed film due out on October 16th.
