Millencolin Singer Nikola GoesSolo
Mon 1st Mar, 2004 in International News
Millencolin are icons in the punk rock scene, they’ve been at it for ages and continue to deliver top quality punk rock year in, year out. With the trademark vocals of Nikola Sarcevic easily found in just about every punk rock fans cd collection, this is the first time the singer has pieced together some solo work of his own and put it out for release.
‘Lock-Sport-Krock’ is a fine piece of intimate rock with influences that range from classic American roots to the timeless craft of the perfect pop song. Recorded in a very stripped down and relaxed environment, it comes across as a very close friend baring his soul to you.
It hasn’t been the greatest of years for Nikola who encountered some personal dramas of his own which forced the re-scheduling of some Millencolin shows in the USA so he could remain in Sweden. This album touches on the personal drama at times, but is overall a happy, positive album. In this time of the popularity of man and acoustic guitar in the emo scene ‘Lock-Sport-Krock’ definitely doesn’t follow that standard emo pattern of boy meets girl, girl dumps boy, boy then cries lyrical situation.
While it is leaps and bounds away from the fast melodic punk rock sounds of Millencolin, ‘Lock-Sport-Krock’ will appeal to all fans of the band, as the songwriting is similar and the vocals remain unique, you can picture these songs being played by the full band.
Appearing on the album are friends of Nikola and throughout the album guests include members of The Peepshows, Bombshell Rocks and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives.
The bio released with this album, notes: With Millencolin having sold over 150,000 units in Australia (and continually growing) you just know this album will go onto big things. ‘Lock-Sport-Krock’ is available in Australia through Shock Records (on the Burning Heart label) March 29th, 2004. You will be able to catch the first single “Lovetrap” on the TV and radio in the coming weeks. Mark March 29 in your diary, as you won’t want to miss this album.
