U2 under fire for tour -œfootprint'

One of the unfortunate by-products of being U2 is that you don’t get off lightly for being U2. An environmental group is going after the superstar Dubliners, arguing that their 44 gargantuan concerts in 2009 is costing the earth dearly. Apparently U2 and their sci-fi stage set – œThe Claw’ has the equivalent carbon footprint of a return flight to Mars.
Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Helen Roberts from carbonfootprint.com kept the analogies coming. “Looking at the 44 concerts, U2 will create enough carbon to fly all 90,000 people attending one of their [London] Wembley dates to Dublin,” Roberts concluded. According to carbonfootprint.com, U2 (okay, Bono ) have opened themselves up to such criticism by repeatedly extolling the virtues of looking after the planet. Oh well, we can’t all be Thom Yorke.
