Coming three years after Decemberunderground, AFI’s new album Crash Love is set for a 28 September release. The razor-fringed idols have announced the hard work is over. “After two years of focused writing and recording we’re thrilled to hear it come to life,” frontman Davey Havok said. “Personally, I’ve never been more proud of an AFI record.”
Back in January, AFI split with producer David Bottrill, recruiting the esteemed Joel McGrath as a replacement. There were rumours that the band was scrapping what they had recorded and starting anew, but that turned out to be false.
McGrath brings diverse experience to the table, having worked with Alkaline Trio and Blink-182 on one hand and Morrissey on the other. Havok told Billboard earlier this year: “The songs, for me, seem a little bit more refined and defined – a bit more straightforward. They’re not punk rock songs like from one of our early-90s records, but there’s more rock-leaning on this album.”
