Panic At The Disco divides up

Despite upcoming shows alongside Blink-182, Panic At The Disco has announced it is splitting in half. Guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker will be handing in their tweed vests “to embark on a musical excursion of their own”.

A statement from the departing pair keeps things civil and PR-polished. “Though the four of us have made music together in the past, we’ve creatively evolved in different directions which has compromised what each of us want to personally achieve,” they write.

Frontman Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith will continue the Panic name with two new members. “Panic At The Disco is alive and very very well,” Urie and Smith announced. “We are working on new songs that we are excited for you to hear.” The new-look band hits the road with Blink and Fall Out Boy this month.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first!

I heard that Panic at the Disco is going to follow a more rocky path and that Ryan Ross's new band (to be called The Neptune Medulla) will be going in a more progressive direction in an interview with Ryan Ross, He took responsibility for the breakup of the band, saying repeatedly in interviews that he felt almost as if Panic at the Disco was holding him back, and that he didn't want his music to be confined to 'punk-folk' or 'pop-emo' – that it should encompass many different genres and be even more progressive, alternative, and "against-the-grain." Ross and Smith had stated that they wanted their next album to sound like Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

If I was asked to name three recent emo bands I would have said Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco. Seems like I'm not alone in my opinion.

As much as i dislike all those bands. I would have to agree with MAB.

Hawthorne Heights, Aiden etc emo.

This is true. Though i have read a few interviews with Ian M, quite a few actually with people refering to them as emotional hardcore. I also read an interview in a guitar world mag. a few years back on the topic as well.

Well, I can see where they get the idea; there's elements of it in their music. But yeah, not a band I'd call emo.

Seriously, I thought the Used/MCR et al. was emo when I was like fifteen/sixteen. Then I actually found out what it was actually about and I smack my younger self in the jaw.

It just won't be Panic without one of the two.

Still, it's Urie's voice that keeps me listening.
