Three years after the release of Black Holes and Revelations, Muse will release its fifth album in Australia on 14 September. The Resistance was self-produced in Italy (why not?) and mixed by “the world’s favourite mixer” Mark – œSpike’ Stent.

While the band have made some oblique suggestions that they’ll be dropping the rock and going orchestral on this outing, we’d take that with lashings of salt. Following on from their epic Wembley Stadium run in 2007, Muse has already sold-out their UK arena shows in November. From there, they roll on to EuropeÃ¢â‚¬Â¦and no doubt beyond.

The Resistance is out 14 September on Warner Music.

It's not about specific song examples. They appeal to the same fan base in the alt scene that Coldplay appeal to in the pop scene.

They make safe albums that the same group of people will go out and buy again and again.

Ask de-tec-tive, she knows all about that type of music.

Sure, Muse aren't the most experimental band in the world, but that doesn't mean they are 'safe'. You can hear the progression in the transitions between each album. Safe bands don't take the technical risks that they have.

No shit, Coldplay and Muse are worlds apart? I'm glad you joined this forum to point that out to me. Coldplay attract a certain type of musical fanbase, as do Muse. Their music, although alternative, is relatively straightforward and appeals to a greater portion of music listeners.

My bad, I have 3 Muse albums. And I only own them all because they were $10 each. Their stuff isn't bad, it's just not that good. Hence the hype is pointless.
