Joy Division originals Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris have rallied their New Order bandmate Phil Cunningham and Blur’s Alex James for a new outfit. The – œsupergroup’ of sorts is called Bad Lieutenant (Harvey Keitel, thankfully, is not invited), with an album due in October.

Sumner announced his new project to BBC Newsbeat last Friday, confirming that estranged New Order bassist Peter Hook is having no part of it. “I’m very proud of it, it’s a very good album,” the man said. “It’s pretty guitary too because we’ve got three guitarists in the band.”

New Order disbanded in 2007, with Hook vehemently disowning Morris and Sumner in interviews. “We split into two factions, there’s me Steve and Phil,” Sumner told BBC. “The other is Peter Hook. Basically he left the band, that’s all I want to say about it.”
