After Jimmy Chamberlin forfeited the drum-stool in March (“I can’t just, – Å“Cash the check’ so to speak,” he wrote), the Smashing Pumpkins has found a new stick-man. That is to say, Billy Corgan has found a new stick-man.

After a round of open auditions in LA, the head Pumpkin wrote on his blog, “I think I have my drummer of the future.” One of the band’s most fervent fan-sites Hipsters United has done some sleuthing and come up with a name for this mystery drummer: 19-year-old Mike Byrne. The young gun currently plays in Oregon band Moses, Smell The Roses, who enjoy a rather-more humble profile than Corgan’s crew.

“I am still on target for putting out new music in October,” the chrome-domed one added in his statement. And the crowd goes wild.
