Icelandic treasures Sigur Rós have let fans know that a new album is “nearing completion”. In a post on their website, the band enthuses, “Sigur Rós have certainly been keeping busy lately” in their Sundlaugin Studio.

The successor to 2008’s Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust will be slower and more ambient than the last two outings. Drummer Orri Páll DýRason spoke to local broadsheet Morgunblaðið, adding that the music they’ve been recording is “melodic but much less noisy and more – œout there’” than in the past.

The album is expected to be released sometime in 2010. Rejoice in all things Sigur Rós with the photos from their last Australian visit.

I thought the last album wasn't special at all. On the other hand Jonsi has a side project with his boyfriend called Riceboy Sleeps. Their album was definitely miles ahead of the last Sigur Ros release.

Disagree, their last album was indeed awesome. Perhaps not as good as Hvarf/Heim or Takk.., but it was still a great record, and a great starting point for people who don't know much about them. Riceboy Sleeps bores me a bit.

Ummm... How can an album be measured up against Hvarf/Heim? It's good, but it's definitely not that good. It's more sort of an alternate collection of various tracks.. Then again, i'm biased. I don't rate () or the new one anywhere near Takk..

( ) is up there with my all time favourite albums, Takk is also a cracker.

Holy shit! You smiled? I was starting to think that was close to impossible ;)

I think the reason I don't like it that much is because I heard Hvarf/Heim first so got a bit bummed when I recognised half the tracks scattered around the record. Put a slight dent in the listening experience.

Dude don't for a minute think that it bothered me, but I will take any possible angle I can to give you shit on a regular basis.

Hvarf/Heim is fucking amazing.. I can listen to it for hours on end.
