With all tickets sold out long ago, the Glastonbury Festival could take its sweet time announcing the 2009 bill. Over the last few months, a lengthy list of bands have accidently or intentionally let slip that they are set to play. For most festivals, these staggered revelations would take the shine off the big reveal. Not so for Glastonbury.
Organisers today released the stage line-ups (in set time running order) and there’s once again plenty to ogle at. Pyramid Stage headliners Blur, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen come as no surprise, but the lower ranks are equally illustrious. Like last year, Aussie acts feature prominently. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds will perform directly before Blur on the final night, while Bjorn Again and Gabriella Cilmi have also earned mainstage spots. Meanwhile, Ladyhawke and The Temper Trap play The John Steel Stage; reserved for the – œbuzziest’ acts.
While the thrill of Glasto is its enormity and variety, there do seem to be some conscious changes following 2008’s soft-seller. After the tiresome fuss over Jay-Z’s top slot and the woeful showing of Amy Winehouse, Saturday has gone the other way entirely with the warm and fuzzy reliability of The Boss and Crosby, Stills and Nash. This being Glastonbury, we’re hoping that becomes Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Without further ado, here’s what the 2009 Glastonbury line-up looks like…
