Nine Inch Nails fan are getting behind an effort by Trent Reznor to save the life of a dying man. According to a post on the NIN website, 27-year-old Eric De La Cruz urgently requires a heart transplant to survive, but has been repeatedly turned down due to complications with medical insurance. His family needs to raise US $780,000 (around $998,000 AUD) to fund the operation.

Reznor has rallied his fans to get behind the cause, and the response has been staggering. According to the frontman’s most recent Twitter update, $645,990 has now been donated. Those who made a contribution of $1000 through the NIN website will have their generosity rewarded.

“If you donate $1,000 to this cause, we’ll invite you to come hang out with us before the NIN/JA show of your choice,” the website promises. “You and a guest can watch NIN and Street Sweeper Social Club’s soundchecks, eat dinner backstage with us, take pics/get autographs and watch the show from the side of the stage if you’d like.”

If all this altruism has brought out your Nine Inch Nails love, check out the videos from the band’s stunning show in Portland on FL TV. Then have a trawl through our - œMany Faces Of Trent’ countdown.
