After capturing the Zeitgeist and all that with their last effort In Rainbows, Radiohead has reconvened to record a follow-up. Bassist Colin Greenwood spoke to both NME and BBC this week, delivering the same message: the band is back in the studio with trusted producer Nigel Godrich.
“It’s really cool and everything is sounding great,” Greenwood revealed to NME. “It’s early days and it is a bit like having a scrapbook at the moment because everything is up in the air, but it’s good to be back in the studio.”
The man chose a slightly more creative analogy for BBC. “It’s at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we’re just looking at all the bits and thinking what’s next?”
Radiohead – who of course make an appearance in FL’s 25 Most Wanted Tours – have just wrapped up a run of shows in South America alongside Kraftwerk. In August, they’ll headline the Reading and Leeds Festivals, which have well and truly sold out.
According to Greenwood, they’re hoping to make up for some imperfect performances in 2008. “It was a bit frustrating when we were playing some of our own shows last year because it was light for the first half hour, 40 minutes of the show,” he told BBC. “So we wanted to do it as it was meant to be seen – darker and louder.”
