Blur reunion delays Gorillazreturn
Mon 18th May, 2009 in International News
It’s been four long years since the last album from Damon Albarn’s cartoon side project the Gorillaz. However, if you’ve been holding your breath in anticipation of new material seeing the light of day in the not too distant future it’s probably a good idea that you exhale, as it’s been revealed the earliest we’re likely to see the next Gorillaz opus is 2010.
Albarn’s manager, Chris Morrison, told BBC6 in the UK that the delay comes as a result of Blur’s much-hyped reunion tour this year, with the legendary Britpop band playing the granddaddy of all music festivals Glastonbury. “He’s got a plethora of tracks at the moment,” Morrison told the radio station. “Whether they all make the light of day or get refined and come down to a normal amount you get on a record of ten to 15 tracks, I can’t tell at this point in time. It’s far too early in the stage of what we are doing.”
It’s said that there’s enough in the can already to make up two Gorillaz albums, however the ever-prolific Albarn is not one to be rushed. “It’ll come round when it’s ready and when it’s been finished and when he’s happy with what he’s done,” Morrison continued. “There is no point putting art around schedules, you put schedules round art and what you need first of all is Damon’s music. The plan for the new Gorillaz album is we’ll wait until Damon’s finished recording it. The thing is, it’s formulating at the moment and it’s going to be out in about a year’s time, I hope.”
