Oklahoma adventurers the Flaming Lips will be taking another step into the unknown at the Pitchfork Music Festival. The band attracted criticism from music critic and ardent fan Jim DeRogatis last month for going back on the original plan to have a fan-chosen set-list.
Now Mr. DeRogatis will have to eat his words, as Wayne Coyne has again agreed to take requests for their slot at Pitchfork’s bash. According to the festival organisers: “The Lips will play selected songs chosen by fans in the – œWrite the Night: Set Lists by Request’ format.”
“The Lips are more than glad to be part of ‘Write the Night’,” Wayne Coyne told Pitchfork. “They will do their best to accommodate the wildest and most obscure of request – covers included.”
Friday night headliners Built to Spill, Tortoise, Yo La Tengo and the Jesus Lizard will also take up the – œWrite the Night’ format. Ticket buyers can vote online for their ideal set-list on the festival website. The Pitchfork Music Festival happens in Chicago on the weekend of Friday 17 to Sunday 19 July.
