While the headliners have been circulating the FasterLouder forums for a while now, Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell has confirmed the first installment of his 2009 line-up. The illustrious Chicago festival always delivers a staggering list of bands, and there’s plenty to celebrate this time round.

At the top of the bill is a powerhouse trifecta: Depeche Mode, Tool and The Killers. There’s plenty more to ogle at too. Jane’s Addiction will return to Lollapalooza for the first time with the original line-up since the inaugural edition in 1991. Kings of Leon, Beastie Boys and Lou Reed are in there as expected, along with TV On The Radio, Snoop Dogg, Animal Collective, Arctic Monkeys and many more choice pickings.

It’s going to be a whirlwind few weeks for Perry Farrell. Lollapalooza happens at Grant Park in Chicago on the weekend of 7-9 August, just a fortnight after Jane’s Addiction headline Splendour In The Grass. With a line-up like this, hopefully he can rest easy.

Are Arctic Monkeys not that popular in the US? They seem quite low down on the bill compared to where they appear in other festivals...

Oh and Splendour all will be forgiven if you get Animal Collective for the second announcement...

Stupidly well run festival as well. just check the place of Friendly Fires and Manchester Orchestra on the Splendour and Lolla line-ups to get a comparison of their quality. Lolla kills.

I thought the same thing as you, why are the Monkeys so far down the bill? I don't think they've ever really cracked America, but hopefully for them that will change.

This line-up is un-fucking-believable. Flights to the States are pretty cheap at the moment too!! Oh so tempting.

Why are we idiots? Do you honestly believe we are not aware of the vast differences between what lollapalooza encapsulates compared to Splendour? People are allowed to voice their opinions, especially on what is seen to be one of Australia's premiere music festivals. We can compare all we like

There is no point in comparing them though, it's like comparing the EPL to the A-League, you'll always come away realising how pitiful our version is to their's. To be pedantic I would also say that saying Lollapalooza has a better lineup than Splendour is stating a fact, not voicing an opinion.

The main point of it was, however that i am disapointed in the Splendour announcement this year :-( I really do wish Australia could have the same calibre festivals as the states and Europe, but alas we can't.

Lollapalooza was a well run festival last year and the majority of the punters were absolute gems.

The USA and UK produces a lot of amazing bands, the festivals over there have a huge selection of homegrown bands to fill out a high calibre line up. Australia just doesn't have that, so importing headliners is costly and a pain in the ass in regards to availability.
Pointless to get disappointed over the Splendour lineup, it says more about your taste than anything. It isn't too shabby as far as Australian festivals go.

my taste is just fine, thanks all the same. What is it with people on here when they can't have a decent conversation without having a dig at someone else. Fasterlouder is meant to be a community, not a place for the frequent contributors/ old members to bash down new people or anyone else who may wish to have a say, with or without differing opinions to yours.

Would all the fucking post deficient bleeding hearts please stop retreading the long overused theory that high post count means anything. Off the top of my head, the two posters with the highest post count have been consistently responsible for some of biggest ass posts to grace our threads.
You want to be a twat then I will most likely call you out. I have no problem entertaining confliction with any post count, same as I have a laugh with all new posters of substance. I remember when Braveheart started posting I could tell from post 1 he was awesome fucking welles.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can see, Muppethead (name seems quite apt) presented an opinion. Lanesra then presented an opinion about Muppethead's opinion.

We are all just presenting our opinions here. Just because Lanesra's opinion is that you're an idiot, doesn't make his opinion any less valid than yours.

Seems like we need gumbuoy to explain the internet to people again. Seems like many people are slow on the uptake.

Good to hear Napoleon's comments about the punters being "gems". I wasn't sure what to expect from the US crowd.
