Chris Hannah, frontman for Canadian punk stalwarts Propagandhi, isn’t mincing words about Fat Wreck Chords label boss Fat Mike. The band of course departed Fat Wreck in early 2009, diverting to G7 Welcoming Committee and Smallman Records for Supporting Caste. Blender.com has published a candid backstage chat between Hannah and Against Me’s Tom Gabel at Florida’s Harvest of Hope Festival, in which Propagandhi’s Fat Wreck troubles are given a good airing.

Asked by Gabel why they chose to leave the label after an illustrious 15 years, Hannah is straight-up. “To be honest, Fat just didn’t express any interest or enthusiasm in the record we were making,” he said. “We asked if they wanted to do it and the only responses we would get from Mike [three weeks later] were some stories about how he was too busy to negotiate the terms because he was gambling in Vegas.”

The conversation later turns to which Propagandhi album Fat Mike would be least fond of. “I would suspect it would be anything we released after 1993,” Hannah mused. “I remember him having a rather limited musical palette. Anything that didn’t sound like a musical cartoon was – œdeath metal’ to him.” The full interview can be found over at Blender.
