Flowers calls out no-funCobain
Wed 8th Apr, 2009 in International News
This week marks the 15th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, but not everyone is eager to praise his legacy. The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers did himself no favours yesterday when he mused to UK tabloid The Daily Star that grunge took the fun out of rock – œn roll.
Having just swung through Australia with V Festival, Flowers was talking to the paper about why America hasn’t taken to new album Day & Age after embracing the Springsteen swagger of Sam’s Town.
“Kings Of Leon filled that guitar spot nicely in America but they don’t have a song like Human,” Flowers espoused. “I don’t mean it in a bad way, but I think Kurt Cobain and grunge took the fun out of rock – œn roll. Everything’s changing, though, and it’s starting to become a lot more playful and brighter.”
While The Killers’ PR department is busy slapping its forehead, the band is on its way to headlining Coachella next weekend.
