In August last year, the FasterLouder forum got all worked up over the hypothetical proposal of introducing a five-drink limit at festivals. Well, the festival that sparked the debate – New York’s star-studded All Points West – has reinstated the alcohol ration for its 2009 edition.

Last year, punters were given wristbands with five rippable tabs. When you purchased a drink, the bar staff took one of your tags. With the event stretching from noon till 11:30pm, getting legless was mission impossible. Ticket-holders for All Points West will again by required to curb their consumption – except this time round the limit has been raised to seven drinks. Organisers aren’t exactly trumpeting the controversial method from the rooftops, either; with the news buried in the FAQs section of the website.

Luckily All Points West will offer plenty of distraction from not drinking. The three-day line-up is spearheaded by Tool, Beastie Boys, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Echo and the Bunnymen, My Bloody Valentine and Coldplay. It all happens at Liberty State Park, New Jersey, on the weekend of Friday 31 July to Sunday 2 August.
