Lightspeed Champion and Yoko Ono aren’t the first names you associate with late-night dancefloors, but they’re just two of the vocalists making an appearance on the new Basement Jaxx album. The UK electronic act are renowned for choosing surprising guests and they haven’t dropped the ball on upcoming outing Scars.
In an interview with Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1’s Essential Selection program Felix Buxton of the duo said Scars is finished and in the process of being mastered. It will be their fifth studio album to date, and it has a proposed release date of late May/early June. “It’s all good,” Felix told Radio 1. “It was all being mastered when we came out to Colombia a few days ago, so it should all be solidifying at the moment.”
Felix also spoke of the album’s guests, revealing they’ve once again lined up a diverse array of vocalists including Yoko Ono, Santigold, Lightspeed Champion and Yo! Majesty, and he recounted road-testing their new tracks on their tour of Australia last month. “Just before this, we were in Australia and the new tracks went down really well,” he said.
