Japan’s esteemed Fuji Rock Festival (yes, the one in very close proximity to our own Splendour In The Grass) has announced a new batch of names for its 2009 event.

Coming off a heavy run of shows in Europe and the UK, archetypal festival band Oasis will now play the bash at Naeba Ski Resort. The second round also includes The Killers, Peaches, Eli – œPaperboy’ Reed and Public Enemy. This year, Fuji Rock is held on the same weekend as Splendour, but what’s stopping a headliner jetting in for the Sunday night at Belongil Fields?

The cast of bands for Fuji Rock also includes Animal Collective, Melvins, Royksopp, The Gaslight Anthem and plenty more. Excitingly, indie heroes Weezer are set to make the trip for their first show of 2009. According to the band’s website: “Beyond that date there will be more international and North American shows announced when they are confirmed.” We wait in hope…
