Van Halen and Chili Peppersupergroup
Thu 26th Mar, 2009 in International News
The supergroup is an interesting and unpredictable beast indeed. Every so often history has proved that the collaboration of musical forces can do more than just inflate the already sizable egos of aging musicians; The Traveling Wilburys, The Good, The Bad, The Queen and The Fantomas all stand as testament to this. However, more often than not the supergroup is used for the purpose of evil, to revive the flailing careers of ex-junkies and has-beens – Velvet Revolver, Rockstar Supernova, Audioslave, and so on and so forth.
Enter Chickenfoot – the brainchild of guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony of Van Halen and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith. This newly formed supergroup is said to have been borne by accident following some impromptu jams at a club owned by Hagar, however, no further explanation has been given for the band’s name. The collective noun for a group of aging musicians perhaps?
Tracks to be included on their debut release slated for late 2009 include, Soap On A Roap, Sexy Little Thing and Oh Yeah – all coincidentally titles of B-grade porn flicks. The band is also hitting the road in Europe throughout June, although no mention has been made of trip dowunder at this stage.
