Heath Ledger directs ModestMouse

We have yet to see the last from late Heath Ledger. Before his fatal overdose in January 2008, the Oscar winner directed a music video for US indie rock band Modest Mouse. The video is for the tune King Rat, a bonus track from their 2007 album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. The video is animated by Terry Gilliam, visionary director of Twelve Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Time Bandits.

Despite rumours that the video would never be completed or released, a spokesperson for the band confirmed that it will be released – œsoon’. No exact date has been announced.

Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock discussed the video with Ledger in a 2007 interview with VH1. “Heath and I have a mutual friend and when we were in Australia, my fiancé and some of us in the band went out on a boat with him and his family and friends and talked about the idea,” Brock said. “The idea sort of dropped, but then he just sent me an email saying that he wanted to do it.”

As we await the release, Modest Mouse are finishing up their US tour while planning singles to introduce No One’s First and You’re Next, an EP due in August.
