MGMT sue a President
Mon 2nd Mar, 2009 in International News
It seems French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been borrowing a few tricks from the US Republican Party. The man has attracted the ire of those elfin superstars MGMT, after he used the duo’s track Kids without permission at a UMP party conference and in online videos. To add insult to injury, the UMP offered a measly one euro payment for the use of the song.
“This offer is disrespectful of the rights of artists and authors. It is insulting,” MGMT’s French lawyer Isabelle Wekstein told press. “We are dealing with acts of counterfeiting, an infringement of intellectual property.” While Sarkozy’s party had paid a standard fee to the French music licensing body, Wekstein contends it wasn’t a sufficient amount.
