Bono calls Chris Martin a"wanker" on radio
Mon 2nd Mar, 2009 in International News
Good judgement, rock star politics or the ultimate case of hypocrisy? That’s what we’re left to decide as U2 frontman and part-time political hero Bono recently gave an on-air lashing to fellow superstar, Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1, Bono was asked whether he thought Martin was on-par with former Beatle Paul McCartney. The Irish singer replied, “I think he’s that good a melodist, but he’s a wanker.” His attempts to play down the comments following the outburst only led to further insults, adding, “He’s [Martin] obviously a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin but he happens to be a great melodist and up there with Ray Davis, Noel Gallagher and Paul McCartney.”
Chris Martin, who frequently names U2 as a major influence, is yet to respond to the comments as he continues his Australian tour.
