Santogold's name change nowofficial

It’s been speculated over for months, but now it’s been confirmed; Santogold – real name Santi White – has changed her name. Issuing a press release this week the official word is that ‘she’s not telling you why’, but considering the new moniker is only one letter different to the original it’s safe to assume she hasn’t made the alteration for giggles.

So, forget everything you know about Santogold, and update your iTunes playlist for 2009 as she’s now going under the title Santigold. “No unpronounceable symbol, no numbers where they shouldn’t be, no random capitalisation, just plain ass Santigold so remember that,” said the press release.

FL ran news in November last year when US music channel mtvU let slip “Santi (formerly known as Santogold)” would appear at their annual awards. At the time no one really knew what was going on, but there’d been rumours circulating that Santi was being sued by Santo Rigatuso, a certifiably insane star of infomercials from the 80s who owned the Santo Gold name.

It seems Rigatuso’s threats were serious enough to warrant the official name change! Truth be told, if he was threatening us we’d be scared shitless too… check out the YouTube below to see him in action. You just don’t mess with people like that.
