Apart from the warm and fuzzy reunion of Blink 182, The 2009 Grammy Awards yielded few surprises. However, a handful of standout performances brought some much-needed spark to proceedings. In their first-ever appearance at the ceremony, Radiohead paired up with the University of Southern California marching band for a stirring rendition of 15 Step. They were one-upped though by a heavily-pregnant M.I.A, who led Swagga Like Us with help from Kanye West, Jay-Z and Lil’ Wayne.
Coldplay once again raided the dress-ups box to accept three awards, including Best Rock Album for Viva La Vida. Thom Yorke and co. claimed Best Alternative Album, while Daft Punk were honoured in the Dance/Electronic category. Pop couple Chris Brown and Rihanna cancelled their appearances after Brown was arrested for an alleged – œdomestic violence felony’. The victim has since been confirmed as Rihanna. Never a dull moment!
