Jeff Buckley's Hallelujahreigns again
Fri 19th Dec, 2008 in International News
Those crazy Brits. When they’re not starting Glastonbury line-up rumours, they’re banding together to give Jeff Buckley a posthumous number 1 single. Fans of the singer have started a campaign to push Buckley’s cover of Hallelujah to the top spot on the UK singles chart – and it’s working.
Their motivation? An unworthy take on the song by X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke currently occupies the #1 position. Outraged Buckley devotees with plenty of time to kill have been feverishly emailing and spamming forums with their call-to-arms. As a result, Jeff’s iconic cover has crept up to the number three spot. But watch out! Leonard Cohen’s original has popped up at #34. This is just way too much excitement for one day.
Alexandra Burke’s version – watch out for your lunch!
