The year isn’t even over yet, and already speculation has begun on the line-ups for three of the world’s leading festivals in 2009.

As soon as Blur announced its comeback show at Hyde Park in London, the band was immediately earmarked for both Coachella and Glastonbury. In both cases, the Britpop heroes would make perfect sense. The English festival giant always flaunts its hometown heroes (case in point: The Verve closing proceedings this year), while its Californian counterpart likes to play the nostalgia card.

Elsewhere, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young – two acts as far from 2008’s controversy stirrer Jay-Z as possible – are also being touted for Glasto. It might be a busy year for The Boss, with his name also bandied around for the mighty Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee. The strongest contender for Bonnaroo, though, remains iconic jam band Phish, who have announced reunion shows for March. It seems one thing is for certain in 2009: the festival obsession with – œcomeback’ bands won’t be easing off.
