When FasterLouder got Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson on the phone this week to speak about playing V Festival 2009, he gave us a piece of his mind about the Sex Pistols-Bloc Party feud.

Wilson was also backstage at Summercase in Spain when members of John Lydon’s entourage incited a scuffle with Kele Okereke (who has since branded the Sex Pistols hothead “the devil”). Befitting his reputation as a knockabout lad, Wilson’s take on events is rather entertaining.

“To me it was just stupid. It was John Lydon’s mates who were causing all the trouble,” Wilson told FasterLouder’s Albert Santos. “And all I did was I kind of weighed in to stop Kele from hurting him, ‘cause Kele’s a really strong dude and he was really, really fucking angry. And I didn’t want Kele to get into trouble cause he looked like he could’ve killed him. He was just in [a] rage. We kind of got Kele in a van and drove off. But he was pretty badly busted up.”

That said, Wilson isn’t denying it makes for a damn good story. “I mean, looking back, I don’t want to laugh about it,” he remarked. “But – in hindsight – it’s just so funny that I was shouting at John Lydon, ‘Fucking anarchy! Is this what you want?’

“I don’t want to get into a big feud with John Lydon but I read what he said in the papers the next day and it was just bullshit. Saying that he was having a lovely evening signing things for fans until four in the morning. There weren’t any fans anyway backstage. The people he was talking about were the people his friends were beating up.”

For more gems from Ricky Wilson, check back on FasterLouder for the full Kaiser Chiefs interview soon.
