Santogold forced to change hername?

If an mtvU (the college division of American MTV) press release is to be believed it seems Santogold – 2008’s – œso hot right now’ queen of indie and forthcoming visitor to Australian shores – has been forced to change her name. Issuing details of performers for their upcoming Woodies Awards ceremony, mtvU let slip “Santi (formerly known as Santogold)” would make an appearance on stage.

It’s sent the blogosphere into a spin, but as yet there’s been no official response from Santogold on the matter, so we’re not taking it as gospel just yet. The reason for the potential name change stems all the way to the 80s, with Santo Rigatuso gaining cult status for his dodgy infomercials selling cheap-ass gold jewelry. The name he went under at the time was, of course, Santo Gold.
