AC/DC tour ignites at firstshow
Thu 30th Oct, 2008 in International News
Ending a seven year absence from the stage, AC/DC kicked off its – œBlack Ice’ world tour in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night with a gargantuan live show.
According to Billboard, the stage set-up included fireworks, 21 Marshall amps with a bridge across them and glass walkways so cameras could catch Angus Young’s shredding from underneath. Sadly, Rosie the giant blow-up doll was incinerated by the onstage flame-throwers during dress rehearsal – although Brian Johnson promised she’d be replaced.
Oh yes, and there was music too. The band reportedly played with as much vigour as ever and Johnson’s voice held up famously. Only five songs from Black Ice made the cut, with the bulk of the set-list comprised of vintage material. We doubt anyone was complaining about the back-to-back serves of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Back In Black, Highway to Hell and You Shook Me All Night Long.
In the words of Rolling Stone USA, “For a group who refuses to release a greatest hits album, they’ve always been quite keen to play a greatest hits set.” Amen to that.
