In the lead-up to the Australian release of The Cure’s 13th album 4:13 Dream, a remix EP of the first four singles has been attracting decidedly mixed responses. The remixes on the Hypnagogic States EP come from a divisive roll-call of talent, including 30 Seconds To Mars, My Chemical Romance, AFI and Fall Out Boy.

The idea of – œemo’ poster-boys remixing the elder statesmen of angst will either thrill or horrify you. While online reviews of Hypnagogic States have ranged from “staggering” to “incompetent”, there’s some consensus that the closing contribution by post-rock outfit 65 Days Of Static is a standout.

So what to expect of 4:13 Dream itself? The album has suffered some setbacks, downsized from an epic double-disc set to a more conventional 13 songs. Earlier this month, The Cure performed the album in its entirety at a concert in Rome. We presume shouts of “play your old stuff!” fell on deaf ears. 4:13 Dreams is out 25 October through Universal.

Hypnagogic States tracklisting

1. The Only One – remixed by 30 Seconds to Mars
2. Freakshow – remixed by Jade E. Puget (AFI)
3. Sleep When I’m Dead – remixed by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and Julien-K
4. The Perfect Boy – remixed by Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy)
5. Exploding Head Syndrome (all 4 singles) – remixed by 65 Days Of Static
