A few months back reports surfaced that M.I.A. was ‘retiring’ from the music biz, but it seems the notion was perhaps a little premature as it’s now been revealed the iconic lady of world-music inspired dance pop is in fact pregnant. And, never one to do things by halves, Ms Arulpragasam might even be carrying twins.
“I’ve got two kids, that’s what it feels like,” M.I.A. told Pitchfork this week. “When I found out I was pregnant and Paper Planes was in the iTunes Top 10 it seemed like the whole world was reshuffled in one week, and all my plans went out the window. And that’s the lesson: you can’t make plans, and you can’t say shit.”
On the weekend she performed alongside Franz Ferdinand and Hot Chip at the Diesel xXx 30th birthday celebration in New York. Paparazzi style, M.I.A. was snapped with a rather noticeable baby belly, and this got blogs going a little crazy with gossip. Straight from the horses mouth, however, Arulpragasam has confirmed that she’s definitely expecting. So don’t go expecting a return tour anytime soon. Boom tish.
