Planning a US expedition in 2009 – economic crisis be damned? Well, make a note in your diary that the legendary Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has moved its dates up two weeks to April 17-19. It will again be held at the scorchingly hot Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

The line-up is set to be revealed early next year and there’s nothing to suggest it won’t be another cracker. After all, this is the festival that convinced the likes of Rage Against The Machine and Portishead to return to the live arena.

Anyone mentions an Australian Coachella and I am going to take the gloves off and put the heels on.

Hot in April, but try being there in Summer. I have to go back to the states next year so I might make it an April trip if the line up tickles my fancy.

Yes! It's going to be called GlastoHella.

Somehow they are going to manage to hold a festival in 40 degree heat in the middle of a desert but still manage to have torrential rain, knee deep mud and flash flooding.

I have a mate who camped the first year because he couldn't afford to stay in a room. He ended up taking in salami sandwiches which he ate over the three days.

He ended up coming back the next year because he was offered free tickets and despite the painful heat (sun rises at 5am), he still camped.

I say he's crazy.

I went this year. I camped. yep it was friggin hot although there's plenty of shade (but not at the campsite) and a big sprinkler section. Top festival but they're quite nazi like when it comes to alcohol in comparison to european or oz festivals. ie police patrolling the campsites making sure no ones drinking. and in the festival site itself you can only drink near the bar, not near the stages. little things I know but......anyway I still had heaps of fun and recommend it.

i went in 07 "just for ratm really" and it is the greatest 3 days you could have. Next years lineup could have anybody on it being the 10 year anniversary of coachella. Their are whispers of David Bowie to our own kylie.

First artist on the bill is Buraka Som Sistema, with the Presets hinted to be the next?

They bookers have suggested that just because it's the tenth year it doesn't mean it will be biggest ever, but they've pulled out all the stops in the past..

Also, I wouldn't be shocked if Perry Farrell played in some form.

I was there when Satellite Party played. I was queuing up for a fleeting 7 hours before I got in, and as I was standing there wishing I were dead I heard Jane's Addiction Ain't No Right in the distance.

yeah satellite party were a real high light for me to Perry is a true performer. We missed about 2 hours of the first day because its a nightmare picking your tickets up but after that theres no dramas.
