Following the likes of The Flaming Lips, Belle & Sebastian and Nightmares On Wax, UK favourites Arctic Monkeys have been invited to put together the 21st edition of Late Night Tales.
The compiling fell to drummer Matt Helders, but we imagine his selections have the blessing of the band. Helders has cast the net wide for the 20-track collection, taking in hip hop (Roots Manuva, MF Doom, Mos Def), electronica (Modeselektor, Simian Mobile Disco), rock ‘n roll (The Stooges, The Black Keys) and even a story reading by Monkeys frontman Alex Turner. This could be the closest you get to an after-hours session with the Sheffield foursome and it looks like a bit of fun.
That’s not all the Arctic Monkeys have been up to either. The band is set to release a live DVD, Arctic Monkeys At The Apollo, in November. It’s directed by actor/filmmaker Richard Ayoade, who has had roles in The Mighty Boosh and The I.T. Crowd and called the shots on some classy music videos. With all this action brewing, surely a tour couldn’t hurt?
