From a heavyweight nominations list that included Radiohead, Burial and The Last Shadow Puppets, Manchester outfit Elbow has claimed the Mercury Prize for fourth album The Seldom Seen Kid.

It’s the award artists actually care about winning, so it’s no surprise Elbow frontman Guy Garvey gave a very chuffed acceptance at the London ceremony. “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to us,” he said. “We’d like to dedicate this award to [deceased former band member] Brian Clancy, one of the greatest men who ever lived. Thank you very much and have a top evening!”
