Hip-pop’s fixation with French duo Daft Punk looks set to continue, with UK grime-cum-chart success Wiley (of Wearing My Rolex fame) unveiling his latest single Summertime, which unashamedly loops the trademark melody from the robot’s 2001 tune Aerodynamic.
Of course, this is not the first time Daft Punk have had their tracks sampled by an urban artist, with Kanye West’s 2007 chart hit Stronger relying heavily on their production talents, and who could forget will.i.am’s horrendous attempt at piggy-backing on Around The World (which, thankfully, Daft Punk saw fit to deny).
Although so far we’ve only got the YouTube version of Wiley’s Summertime to go on, we can’t say we’re entirely impressed. Although, he can’t exactly be ripped apart for such an uninspiring effort as Daft Punk themselves have been criticised for their somewhat un-creative use of samples at times. What do you think?
