Arriving at the the Ripple Effect anti-Republican rally in Minnesota on Tuesday for an impromptu show, Rage Against The Machine was prevented from plugging in and playing. The band arrived close to the 7pm curfew, and without a proper performance permit. They were hoping to follow billed headliners Anti-Flag, but police cut the power to the stage. Undeterred, frontman Zach De La Rocha and guitarist Tom Morello grabbed a megaphone and led the crowd through Bulls On Parade and Killing In The Name a capella. Guitar parts and all.

The rally, which was timed to coincide with the Republican Party Convention, then marched towards the nearby Xcel Energy Centre – led by De La Rocha and Morello.

Check out RATM’s less-raging-than-usual rendition of Bulls on Parade below.

And here’s a more detailed report on why the band never made it to the stage.
