Poor INXS. Not only have they been without a lead vocalist after Jon Stevens’ departure in late 2003, but they’re forced to play rock’n’roll in a music world obsessed with Australian Idol, American Idol, Pop Idol, you name it…
“How can we find a lead singer?” wondered the collective mind of INXS. “Advertising in street press just doesn’t seem like our style.”
Thankfully, the producers of TV shows Survivor, The Apprentice and The Contender were on hand to suggest a 13-part reality series, in which the band members will travel to over 20 cities to audition potential singers, fly an undertermined number of hopefuls to Hollywood, and start a culling process to find the band’s new rock superstar.
The band liked the idea.
Auditions will commence in January and will take place in locations including Liverpool, Toronto, New York, Chicago, and Sydney; Australia – on March 5.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to belt out Never Tear Us Apart in front of tens of thousands of crying fans, you can find more details and download an application form at INXS Rock Star.
The series will screen on US network CBS from July 2005, and is expected to be sold to several overseas networks.
