While one of V Festival’s dual sites wallowed in mud and torrential rain over the weekend, the other enjoyed uninterrupted sunshine. Both, however, got to enjoy sets from Muse, The Verve, Kings Of Leon, Kaiser Chiefs and many more festival greats.

Muse closed out proceedings at the sodden Staffordshire leg last night, having done the Saturday honours at Chelmsford. The band’s sets at both sites included older anthems like New Born and Plug In Baby alongside rousing selections from Black Holes & Revelations. According to NME, drummer Dominic Howard told the crowd, “See you again next year. We’ll have some new music.” A ripe opportunity to headline our own version of the V Festival, perhaps?

Elsewhere, it was sing-a-longs aplenty from the Kooks, Stereophonics, Hot Chip and – yes – The Sugababes, who drew one of the weekend’s biggest crowds. Admit it – you would’ve been there too. Australian stars included The Presets, Gabriella Cilmi and ex-pat Sam Sparro.

The only minor controversy came from a still-unstable Amy Winehouse, who kept fans waiting in Staffordshire and again in Chelmsford. When she finally tottered on-stage, it was to a mixture of cheers and boos. Business as usual, then.
