Members of Metallica, Slayer, Alice In Chains and Anthrax will super-group it up at this year’s Ozzfest as a tribute to murdered Pantera axe-man ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott.

The event, held in Dallas on 9 August, is a Mecca for metal and rock fans, with this year’s line-up including Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Serj Tankian and Hell Yeah. Directly after Hell Yeah’s set, Dimebag’s brother Vinnie Paul will act as musical director and drummer for the all-star tribute.

The cast includes Kerry King (Slayer), Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez (Alice In Chains), King Diamond, Scott Ian and Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Kirk Hammet (Metallica), Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed/Kingdom of Sorrow), Chad Gray (Mudvayne/Hell Yeah) and Bob Zilla (Damageplan/Hell Yeah). In honour of Abbott, the set will include “many Pantera classics”.

Abbott was shot and killed on-stage by an audience member during a 2004 concert in Columbus, Ohio.
