Mighty Boosh festival setssail
Mon 7th Jul, 2008 in International News
The inaugural Mighty Boosh fête took over Hop Farm in Kent on the weekend, with the – œMighty Boosh band’ in the headline slot. Punters came dressed as characters from the show, the comedy tent drew the biggest crowds and (naturally) Noel Fielding made the most spectacular entrance.
The live bands, including The Kills, The Charlatans and Gary Numan, reportedly played to thin crowds, while the – œVelvet Onion’ comedy stage overflowed. All eyes were on the main stage, though, when the Mighty Booshers arrived. Fielding, dressed in silver glittery jumpsuit, led the way on a life-size “HMAS Mighty Boosh”, followed by Julian Barratt in a blow-up dinghy. Naboo, Bollo and even Old Greg made appearances throughout the show.
According to the write-up in UK broadsheet The Times, “Jazz was just one of the styles subjected to affectionate pastiche in a show that also embraced electro pop, punk rock, funk and heavy metal.” However, the review goes on to say, “While the music was competent, the comedy was thinly spread … during a cluster of indifferent funk-rock numbers a wearying sense of repetition set in.”
