Conchords conquer USA

New Zealand’s leading funnymen Flight Of The Conchords are enjoying unprecedented success in America, with their self-titled debut album opening at #3 on the US pop chart. The release also topped internet download sales, according to Billboard.
The LP is a soundtrack of sorts to the duo’s TV series, which has been signed for a second season by HBO. Flight of the Conchords was pipped on the Billboard chart by Leona Lewis’s Spirit at #2 and Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 in the top spot. The Conchords album is released on Sub Pop Records, whose last high-ranker was the Shins’ Wincing the Night Away in February 2007.
As a result of all this Flight of the Conchords fever, Jemaine and Bret have some high-profile shows planned around America. Playing theatres throughout May, the boys are also on board for the final day of the colossal Sasquatch Festival, alongside The Flaming Lips, Mars Volta, The Hives and Battles.
