Vanilla Ice goes to jail

It seems that Vanilla Ice’s recent stint in Australia over the NYE/NYD period didn’t do much to calm his temper… with the infamous rapper arrested late last week on charges of domestic violence.

Mr Ice – aka Robert Van Winkle – has had many ups and downs throughout his career, most notably selling more than 15 million copies of his infamous hit – œIce Ice Baby’ in the early 90s, before losing it all in the years to follow and even attempting suicide.

He still a confident guy, however, as he quite memorably told our sister site inthemix in December last year that he should be given sole credit for modern hip hop’s popularity. “Even Jay-Z and your biggest selling rappers out today, Kanye West or whoever it is, their records are sold to eight-five, ninety per cent white people, and there’s a reason for that. Who introduced it to the white kids first? Me!”

It’s alleged that Ice kicked and hit his wife in their South Florida home on Thursday night. He was arrested on Friday and held without bond, and his wife later changed her statement to allege he only pushed her. He’s claiming he did nothing at all. It’s not the first time Van Winkle has been picked up on allegations of domestic abuse, having spent a night in jail in 2001 on similar charges.
