Summer Sonic is the other Japanese festival that falls near our own Splendour In The Grass. Similar to Fuji Rock, experience tells us that some of this starry line-up will also be appearing at the Byron Bay love-in…

Stretched across two days on dual sites in Osaka and Tokyo, Summer Sonic hosted Bloc Party, The Horrors, Arctic Monkeys and Klaxons in 2007. And yes, detectives among us, that quartet of headliners was also booked for Splendour (Klaxons, though, pulled the plug). So the theory holds up!

This year, the organisers have secured some impressive top-tier names, including The Verve, The Sex Pistols, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Coldplay. However, there’s plenty to love (and speculate on) in the smaller print, too. Consider the likes of Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, The Wombats and New Young Pony Club …all names that wouldn’t look out of place on a Splendour bill.
