Sonic Youth prep new album

En route to Australia for some special Don’t Look Back shows, Sonic Youth has revealed there’s another album on the way.

Speaking to NME after the band performed for a Marc Jacobs runway show (yes, we’re surprised too), Thurston Moore revealed the new record is slated for early 2009. During the fashion showcase, two studio-fresh songs were played: Jams Run Free and Cool Thing.

“We haven’t gotten together in about four months, we’ve been taking a nice sort of break, which is good,” Moore told NME. “I’ve been actually able to escape into the basement. We’re going to Australia next week for about two weeks, then we’ll come back and start writing.”

On this tour, Sonic Youth will be playing their much-celebrated album Daydream Nation in its entirety.

no way am I surprised they played for Marc Jacobs - I'm just jealous I wasn't there ;) CANNOT WAIT for next Monday

never fear Sarahanne their last few albums have been a return to form (if they were ever out of form). Check out 2006's excellent Rather Ripped.

WHAT?, what is wrong with this country. First Jmag say to Lee Ranaldo "Oh, so this is the first time Australian Audiences will be able to hear Rather Ripped Material?", Ok. They toured the country FOR the album playing nothing but Rather Ripped. and whaaaat. "Jams Run Free" a new song?..Fresh out of studio?..Its on Rather Ripped. and i'm guessing "Cool Thing", is ment to be "Kool Thing" released over a decade ago. Does anyone..like..Sonic Youth?. Whose a journalist?

Yeah that article was just a tad confusing...

And the Jmag thing sounds like a really bad bit of non-researched journalism. They came out 2 years ago for Rather Ripped and played Splendour which triple j were major or the main supporters of!

Oh well for us fans we have only 6 days till their first Daydream Nation shows!

Yeah, who knows. Just lazy journalism maybe, But i don't know why Lee Ranaldo didn't correct them in the Jmag interview, maybe he forgot they came here...it's possible. (maybe??).

Did I hear right that for the "Don't Look Back" shows they play all of Daydream Nation and then play some other stuff at the end?

Not that I don't love Daydream but the more SY,the better.
